KALX

KALX is the UC Berkeley radio station, 90.7 FM. It's pretty cool. Self-proclaimed "embarrassing piercing on the lip of University of California," they are dedicated to playing non-mainstream things.

I have discovered a lot of great music through KALX recently: My Brightest Diamond, Jesca Hoop, Department of Eagles, Passion Pit, Emiliana Torrini.
Some of their recent favorites (things I've heard several times) are Magnetic Fields, Calexico, Okkervil River, Mexican Institute of Sound, CSS, Starfucker, Animal Collective, and Blitzen Trapper.

They are just way more chill than any other radio station. There are very few ads and no annoying radio announcers. Basically imagine it as the opposite of La Raza in terms of hyperactiveness. The type of music differs greatly depending on who the DJ is, but they aren't afraid to play totally strange things so you need an open mind.

The only bad thing about it is the relatively weak signal, so if you don't live in Berkeley, you may have trouble tuning in. Oh, and they also have news sometimes that's really cute because it's... not super professional. And if you have ever seen Lexie Green, she was probably wearing a KALX shirt.
