From the new Vishnu exhibit at BMA

Varaha Rescuing the Earth

Just heard a talk by Joan Cummins, who curated the new exhibit. Hinduism is the most poetic religion I've heard about so far. I can't wait to spend more time in the exhibit. This is Varaha, the wild boar avatar of Vishnu who is saving the earth goddess Bhuma Devi from drowning in the cosmic ocean. As a boar, Varaha can dig down into the ocean and sniff out Bhuma Devi, lifting her to safety and crushing Hayagriva, the demon who wanted the earth to drown.
