The desire for sameness
is death—
the only way for
two hearts to hold
the same rhythm.

The desire for warmth
is a name on a piece of paper—
hair drunk again,
sniffing the neck’s white curve,
billowing in sloppy curls.

Your desire is
somewhere else,
floating above your body
in another room maybe,
in another place.
You wonder if that metal in his kiss
is blood. You look around while
his tongue snoozes down your throat,
The fluorescent light above you
is beautiful—its hum the most eternal
thing about this.
