Dirty Projectors

were amazing!!!

We got in with ease.... which almost frustrated us a little. We missed half the Tune-Yards' set, but what we did hear was amazing. Merrill Garbus is pretty much a one woman show. She plays the ukulele, drums, sings, and loops it all together to make amazing music.

This song is called Hatari:

At the end of her set she did a song that went "do you wanna live?!" and everyone shouted "yeah!" every time and it was really cute.

Dirty Projectors were incredible. They are probably the most skilled musicians I have seen to date. They started out with the intricate guitar melody of Imagine It and things only got better. The vocal harmonies they are able to create are unmatched in their clarity and unique sound. They definitely went more "math rock" on us for certain songs, meaning they sort of spiralled out of the melody into bizarre rhythms of increasing volume and tempo. It was sort of funny to watch the crowd trying to get their groove on while the time signature kept changing.

There was also a surprise performance by 3 members of The Roots for Stillness is the Move and No Intention I think. Which was really cool but definitely pretty random. I was hoping the whole time that they would play Knotty Pine, which has a painfully pretty melody. It was the last song of the finale and... another surprise, David Byrne of the Talking Heads joined in. They actually co-wrote that song with him. But that was very surprising.

Here are photos from Brooklyn Vegan.

This is just the recorded audio of the lovely Two Doves because the videos were all crappy:

I can't find any videos that really capture what they're like live. So I give up.

You can download some of their older songs legally and for free on Daytrotter.... here and here. You should also get their latest album Bitte Orca. It's really really good.
